Dobó Gábor, PI of the ProletGard project, has published a Hungarian-language introduction to the project in Óbudai Anziksz, a local cultural magazine from Budapest’s Óbuda district, home to the Kassák Museum.
The article offers a broader, non-specialist audience an accessible insight into the project and its research questions.
Titled East-Central European Proletarian Avant-Garde?, the article presents the international research program of the Kassák Foundation. Over the coming years, the ProletGard research group will investigate how the relationship between labor movements and modern art developed across East-Central European societies. How did avant-garde techniques—from photomontage and workers’ choirs to modern pedagogical practices—spread within interwar working-class culture? And conversely, how did avant-garde artists increasingly begin to create art for and together with workers, and how did this transform artistic practice itself?
The article will soon be available online.
